The New "Come With Me"

I think I will keep the suspense and not spoil it by posting the chorey for BC3903. This track ROCKS!

And the track below is for BC3908. My initial favourite of the entire release!

BODYCOMBAT 39 Sizzler

Check this out... before we're launching BC38, the sizzler for BC39 is already out!

From personal experience, BC39 will be about combos. Combos longer than the usual, that will test you mentally other than physically!

Picture yourself fighting one-on-one in the cage - Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) style - and that's BODYCOMBAT 39. You're going to learn the skills you need to hang on until the last round so get ready for some combo-heavy tracks and lots of repetition.

To get a taste of an authentic UFC you're going to need to get warmer faster as ultimate fighters are among some of the fittest athletes in the world. So that's what the warmup is all about, with a focus on keeping light on your feet.

Get ready for one of the longest combos ever seen in a power training track in track 3 - can you believe there are 16 punches in a row? The power for the huge combo comes from the core of your body and motivation from rocking track Come With Me.

Two different types of energy are needed in track 4. The knee combo is fun and light but you've gotta be tough during the back fist/side kick combo. Scooter vs. Status Quo's Jump That Rock (Whatever You Want) harnesses the energy perfectly.

There are six solid rounds of identical choreography in track 5 which also features the power squat. Pink's in the house in track 6 and you're gonna want to start a fight during So What. There's no recovery and you're trying to knock your opponent out with every punch! A new move, the step over cross, features in track 7. This is awesome as it can be used in both an offensive and a countermove situation. Make sure you hold something back for the last 60 seconds of continuous knee strikes!

Your muscular endurance is certainly tested in track 8 where the challenge is to never step out of the intensity. Track 9 is devoid of conventional sit-ups and instead uses the hover & side plank to work all of the core muscles. The apt lyrics of Infernal's I Won't Be Crying help you through this intense track - even though you might feel like crying by this stage!

My Immortal

Was just running through my playlist for Bodybalance when one of my all-time favourite tracks came up. This track brings back many memories. It is possibly the track that made me like Bodybalance and it is definitely the track that made me like Evanescence.

There's some irony in the song. The song is about leaving/departure and the lead guitarist Ben Moody left the band. Ben Moody co-wrote the song, and I only found out later that Ben Moody is a collaborator with one of my favs (Avril Lavigne) and also he co-wrote the song 'Because Of You' performed by Kelly Clarkson and over-played by me in my BC classes.

I love everything about the song, the lyrics, the haunting vocals of Amy Lee, the strings in particular.

Pity the strings in the track was replaced by the drums in the official MTV release.

I'm so tired of being here
Suppressed by all my childish fears
And if you have to leave
I wish that you would just leave
'Cause your presence still lingers here
And it won't leave me alone

These wounds won't seem to heal
This pain is just too real
There's just too much that time cannot erase

[Chorus:]
When you cried I'd wipe away all of your tears
When you'd scream I'd fight away all of your fears
And I held your hand through all of these years
But you still have
All of me

You used to captivate me
By your resonating light
Now I'm bound by the life you left behind
Your face it haunts
My once pleasant dreams
Your voice it chased away
All the sanity in me

These wounds won't seem to heal
This pain is just too real
There's just too much that time cannot erase

[Chorus]

I've tried so hard to tell myself that you're gone
But though you're still with me
I've been alone all along

[Chorus]

Overdue

I promised much but under-delivered. I'm finally dedicating some time to upload some pics to show everyone. If you look at the pics from my filming this round, you would probably understand why I took fewer pics this time.

The Feb filming was in conjuction with the Global Summit held at a hotel, where everyone was mingling at the waiting area outside the filming hall, so people were more willing to pose for photos and you can get shots up close. And after each filming, the presenters were outside posing for pics as there was a 1/2 hr gap before the next filming.

The Oct/Nov filming was at Auckland Studio 1, it was more difficult to get people to pose for photos. As soon as filming for one program was over, we had to clear the area to make way for the next filming. And the only time we don't have to rush is the last program, but by then everyone would be so tired and hungry, and head straight for the pizzas or shower.

Furthermore, due to lighting issues and distance from the stage, the shots are usually not nice or clear. I guess my camera is due for an upgrade?

Nevertheless, here's some of the best pics... Enjoy.
Warning: Picture intensive!)

Run

Leona Lewis (the one of Bleeding Love fame) did a cover of Snow Patrol's Run and has been receiving rave reviews for the song.

I've listened to it and I watched some of the live performances. It's a great rendition but my heart has long been won over by the original version.

The original version was my exam track for my Bodybalance instructor training, back in release 30. The hamstring track, and I can still remember the Hindi squat that nearly killed my legs.

There are hundreds of good artistes and thousands of good songs out there. But for me, the good songs are the ones that are the most personal and trigger the emotions. I attach songs to memories, to events in life.

I'm not taking any credit away from Leona Lewis, I think she did a great job though. My personal favourite among her tracks is not 'Bleeding Love' but the more subtle 'Better In Time'.

Youtube the song and you might even like it too.

BC38 launch at Cali

Cali launched BC38 today. It's the time of the quarter again, when they launch all the new Les Mills programs, this time there are 4 (BODYJAM) instead of the usual 3. I was at the Novena branch today and I bumped into quite a few former PF members (some of whom I don't know the names) and people I know, like Michiko, Michelle, Lindy and Yvonne.

Before I start talking about the BC38 launch, I must express some disappointment at myself. After my STC class yesterday, I walked all the way to Bugis to attend the BB43 launch, only to chicken out 5 mins after stepping into the gym because I decided I was too tired to do a class. True enough, I slept the entire afternoon away. I wished I could have done better but sometimes it's better to listen to your body.

In response to an earlier comment asking if I am a Cali member. Yes, I am a lifetime member, signed a few years back before I started instructing. I used to work at a company that was at the same building as the Cali branch in Raffles Place, so it was very convenient for me to just head there for a lunch express workout. I worked out my sums and decided to go for a lifetime membership, even though I held an existing PF membership. I paid the lump sum and so now I'm paying $8 a year, which I reckon is a good deal.

The one thing I like about Cali is the GX atmosphere, and the fact that they launch releases way earlier than anywhere else. After a while, I just returned to PF because I like the old cosy atmosphere, the friendly people, and non-hostile environment. It's also the place where I got to know my GX kakis to do class together, and where I know all the fellow instructors. And because of that, I'll always be tagged as a PF instructor wherever I go. For instance, Toshie introduced me as a PF instructor today. I forgot to remind her that PF has sadly ceased to exist.

On new launches, I always like doing launches early because as a participant, I can get a taste of the latest music and moves. I hate all the wait. The anticipation will probably kill me. As an instructor, I usually finish learning the release within 1 or max 2 days, so I kinda hate having to wait a few months before official launch, then having to refresh my memory again. I always feel that tracks are best delivered fresh, when the ideas are still being generated.

I try my best to attend Cali's launches because I would like to get the feel of doing the tracks as a participant so that I can deliver the tracks better during my own classes. It's important to know which moves needs to be cued better, which combos are more difficult to execute, and what parts of the track I like as a participant.

I rushed down to Novena in a cab. Could have picked Bugis at the same timeslot but I figured Novena would be better. Turned out to be a pleasant surprise. I saw Michiko there giving her support to Toshie, and surprisingly, I also saw Yvonne, Michelle and Lindy there.

The class was full, the crowd was enthusiastic, and it was entertaining. There were bits and pieces of performances, coordinated outfits from the 4 instructors, transmitter malfunction, and as usual a couple of errors which provided some comic relief.

Verdict - I like this release. The tracks are all quite nice and I actually like T2 more and more. T5 of cos was my favourite. Avril Lavigne and presented magnificently by Toshie! Good job, girl.

The esquiva track T6 was frankly a disaster. The workout was very tough on the legs, much more than BC37's Stamp, but I felt that the choreo needs to be broken down for the class before they can get into it. People were just getting into each other's way cos they just weren't sure what to do.

Comparing BC38 to BC37, I still think I like the first half of BC38 better and the second half of BC37 better. But this was the first time that I got to do BC38 proper in a class setting so I must say it was really enjoyable. I missed BC38 in Auckland cos I flew back right after filming.

After BC38 launch, I stayed back to do a freestyle step class by Harry. It was quite enjoyable, and it's been quite a while since I had the opportunity to attend a freestyle step class since my change in schedule.

Well, tmr is BP68 launch, I can't make it due to a dinner, but I'm not too keen on BP though. It's BJ47 launch on Xmas eve at 3pm! But I don't have half day on Xmas eve, so it will be sad that I'll have to give it a miss. Even though I've done BJ47 in Auckland already, launch atmosphere is definitely different and I would love to go attend. Is taking a half day on Xmas eve wasteful?

On Leave

Before I proceed, I would like to implore all participants of GX classes at TF to please register at the counter. This would facilitate a more accurate assessment of attendance. Without registration, the attendance being captured would be an inaccurate reflection of the actual number, and in the short run, this could lead to disastrous consequences. Like what? Like no longer being able to attend your regular timeslot.

Now back to the main agenda. I'm on leave today, and it's such a coincidence that Xavier required a cover for his class. I agreed as I was about to attend the class anyway.

Being on leave is one of the most wonderful feeling ever. While I have no wish to be unemployed, it does feel good to be clearing leave and not having to turn up for work, even though I don't mind work that much.

Have been itching to hit the pool for some laps for the longest time ever, but it seems that December weather would not permit me the luxury. I stayed home to watch the finale of my favourite show SURVIVOR. I've followed it for 17 seasons now, that's probably about 8 years and I still love it to bits.

I've never been a trusting person in the first place, so maybe watching SURVIVOR has made things worse as I've seen some of the worst aspects of human nature. Humans are innately selfish and I've long understood and accepted that behaviourial aspect.

I think people will probably think I'm crazy that I'm taking leave just to catch the show as early as I can before the repeat telecast. I have had the entire season spoilt cos I accidentally clicked on some news website that irritatingly reported the winner before I caught the finale on a repeat telecast in the evening. Once bitten, twice shy.

But that's who I am for the uninitiated voyeur who is reading this blog. Few interests, but very deep interests.

After the show, I went to cover class at China Square. It must have been nearly half a year since I last conducted a class there. When I was having class there, I was grumbling about the sound system and the what-nots such as the size constraints of the studio etc. It is lethargic having to drag your ass there every week knowing that the same problem will occur.

On the other hand, when you know that you have the opportunity to do it once in a blue moon, you just close your eyes and accept all the shortcomings, lock, stock and barrel.

Today was no exception, when I conducted the class, there were intermittent interruptions, but I must really complement the crowd for being utterly supportive, lending me not only their hollers but singing as well. I had a wonderful hour and I hoped the class felt the same way too. I especially loved people shouting "ENERGY" in Field of Dreams, the STOMP when switching sides in "Power Of Love", and singing "SHUT UP AND DRIVE". Love it!

Partly due to the fact that when I cover classes, I have a tendency to choose the crowd favourites. I tend to meddle less with track selection, as compared to my own classes. For my own classes, I like to experiment. I like to do ESK tracks. I like to do difficult tracks, I like to do seldom-played tracks, I like a mix and match so that we can have a different experience.

Just for instance, on last Saturday, I played BC3307, Run To The Hills. After the track, I asked the class what they thought of it. They didn't like it. As for myself, I don't exactly like it, but I haven't done that track since BC33 launch, so I thought why not try it again.

One man's meat is another man's poison. Some people like certain tracks and others may not. But there are also some tracks which I think everyone likes. An example I can think of is 'Sea of Love'. I did it today again, and I don't think there has been anyone who has come up to me to say that they don't like the track.

But honestly speaking, how can anyone not like that track? It's AWESOME!

I'm still awake now because I'm still feeling the adrenaline rush from the class. And I have to work tomorrow!

Stretching Your Dollar

If you're an avid fan of traveling like me, and spend using credit cards, make sure you get the right one.

My buddy DY was telling me he's using the DBS Amex Black card and getting 1% back in shopping vouchers. I told him he's on the short end cos it equates to below 1% discount on spending.

I'm no stranger to building models and doing simulation since I was formerly an analyst, so I did a calculation combining use of credit cards and frequent flyer miles. I think I derive more kick from calculations rather than savings.

Assuming travel on economy class, redemption of Krisflyer miles to Auckland / Christchurch gives you the most mileage (pun intended). Basically, the same number of miles is required for each zone (i.e. redeeming return flights to Auckland is the same as redeeming to Perth/Sydney which is a shorter distance)

Miles required for Auckland = 55,000 (46,750 after 15% online redemption discount)
Full fare to Auckland = $1,800
Dollar value per mile = $0.0385

My calculation for other destinations (Taipei $0.0314, Tokyo $0.0288, Paris/London/Barcelona $0.0286, New York $0.0294, San Francisco $0.0303) using fares a few months back when I did my analysis.

For simplification purpose, I will use $0.03 on average to value one mile.

So for most credit cards, typically they give you 1 pt (or exchangeable 2 miles) for every $5 spent. That's a $0.06 return on a $5 spent. 1.2% discount. Still better than DBS Amex's 1%?

For myself, I prefer to use Citibank's Premier Miles, which pays me 1.2 miles for each $1 spent. That's $0.036 for $1, which equates to a 3.6% discount for every dollar. And if I stretch my miles by strictly redeeming Auckland, it's $0.0385 x 1.2 = $0.0462 for each $1 spent. I'm practically getting a 4.6% discount each time I spend!

Now here's the catch... there's AMEX's Krisflyer card as well... the one that pays
1) 1 mile per $1.60 spent.
2) 50% more miles if you spend more than $5,000/year; and
3) another 50% if you spend more than $10,000/year, max of 5,000 miles.

To qualify for tier 3, the optimum spending is $16,000.

So if you spend $16,000/year, you get in miles for each tier
1) 10,000
2) 5,000 (50% of tier 1)
3) 5,000 (50% of tier 1, max of 5,000)

Total miles 20,000 for $16,000. Mileage value = 20,000 x $0.03 = $600. For $16,000 expense, that works out to be 3.75% discount, even more than Citi PremierMiles!

However, if you spend more than $16,000, eg $20,000/year. Your miles are as follow:
1) 12,500
2) 6,250 (50% of tier 1)
3) 5,000 (50% of tier 1, max of 5,000)

Total miles 23,750 for $20,000. Mileage value = 23,750 x $0.03 = $712.50. For $20,000 expense, that works out to be 3.56% discount, slightly below the CitiPremier Miles discount of 3.6%. And the more you spend, the lower the discount because tier 3 is capped at 5,000 miles.

So the optimal solution? Spend $16,000 on KF Amex Gold, and charge the remaining to CitiPremier Miles card.

Have I lost you yet? If you're still reading, what are you waiting for? Get both cards now to make your trip to Auckland a reality! That's why I currently have enough miles for 2 more trips to Auckland.

And another thing, how do you decide if you should go for 2-to-go fares or full fares? Very simple. Just compare the discount with the mileage value of the miles you can earn, use ~$0.025-$0.03 per mile.

This post is actually intended for a friend who I know who is reading.

As for the rest, I hope this post also explains to my travel partners why sometimes I'd rather pay the full-fare to accumulate the miles as compared to budget airlines. And I'm KF Silver status too, 25% bonus miles for each qualifying trip.

Two Perspectives

I managed to get off work relatively early today, so I attended Sue's class at GWC, though I needed to rush there by cab. I haven't had such an enjoyable class as a participant in a while. It felt really good to just let the instructor bring up the energy and just relax and focus on doing the class.

What made it even more enjoyable was two of my favourite tracks being played at the end of the class, 'BC3208 Welcome To The Black Parade' and '3103 2 Dream'. These 2 tracks get me high all the time.

It makes me remember the good old times when I was just a member attending class. Waiting outside the studio entrance, chit-chatting with friends or gym acquaintances, watching the previous class end, feeling the anticipation of a class starting. The good old feeling was back all over again.

When I am participating, I always like to anticipate what tracks the instructor would play, which is why I think it's imperative (for myself) to mix and match. Some members really like being kept in suspense as to what tracks will be next. I used to feel that way myself. It is boring if you know the instructor is going to play a certain release and you almost know what the next track is.

My two favourite classes of the week (years ago) would be Haley at FES (Wed) and Sue (Sat). Haley's class being in the evening is more corporate crowd, and the crowd is really sporting and bent to have a good workout. Little did I know that I would one day take the class and bring up the intensity. Among my 5 classes in a week, it was the class where I would choose the most difficult and toughest tracks to 'kill' everyone. It was also the class where I would test all the propulsive moves such as the ESK and jump knees. Loved it!

Sue's on Sat is a totally different crowd. Different personalities from all walks of life gathered to go crazy for an hour or so. The atmosphere is still good but it definitely can't match the vociferous crowd and crazy shouters we had a couple of years back. Each week was electrifying and you could just feel the vibes before the class started. Everyone was just bracing themselves to let their voices loose.

Then there would be the standing spot. Every week the regulars had their own spot, which was respected by fellow regulars. Members know where their spot is when they see other members. Mine would be beside the window about 3-4 persons from the front.

Of course, what would Bodycombat be without personalities? They would be the same faces you see week in week out, each with a distinct feature and usually associated with a moniker because you don't know their name. It was all done in good fun.

I would not have known my own nickname if a few friends hadn't told me. I'm known as the 'Raffles guy' because I was always wearing my JC t-shirt. I was still schooling then and didn't have too much $ to buy sports apparel. Nike stuff is expensive! It still is, anyway. But at least now I have income.

Now that I've been conducting classes for well over 2 years and going to reach 500 classes, I also see things from the other side. On the stage, I do get quite a good view so it's quite amusing to see the things happening in class which participants may not get to see if it's not around their area.

Honestly speaking, conducting class isn't easy. It is physically draining (imagine having to do and talk and shout at the same time), mentally challenging (remembering moves, knowing what to say, catching the music) and sometimes unrewarding (you'll never win everyone over and you'll always have critics).

That's why after the personal experience, I do have plenty of respect for my fellow instructors.

Sometimes when we have a bad day, does anyone know how difficult it is to keep on smiling on the stage? And after a high-energy class with all the adrenaline pumping, it's easy to start feeling gloomy when the adrenaline subsides. I've discussed this with other instructors before, it's not only me who is feeling this.

Saying so, I still love conducting classes. I like being the DJ and choosing what tracks to do. I like planning my classes weeks in advance, progressing from easier to more difficult tracks. I like seeing people improve, both physically and technique wise. I like torturing people by pushing them hard, as mentioned earlier for my FES class. A bit psycho I know. I like hearing sighs of fatigue. Sick, isn't it. Haha.

Like my 2-hr class just yesterday. I had so much fun even though I was damn shagged out after class. I even extended it to 2hr 15mins. The shouting and energy was enough to keep me going.

I don't ask for a lot. I just want people to have a good time in class, and experience the feeling I had as a member doing BC. This is my way of giving, giving my energy, passion and enthusiasm.

Most of the time, I'm not a very good verbal communicator, and my actions are often construed differently by others. But I'll just continue to do what I can, within my ability. I know my limits, so I won't cross the line, like trying to aspire to be a BODYJAM instructor for instance, so I'd rather pull the plug even before it starts.

Nothing is more rewarding than seeing faces of satisfaction as I conclude the class. I don't need thanks or compliments, the expressions on the faces more than do it for me.

I don't feel the same for other programs, so I guess I'll keep on doing BC until my body fails me, be it participant or instructor.

Bodyjam launch at Cali

Friday evening was the official BODYJAM launch at California Fitness. It was held at Orchard branch, and I quickly finished off my work and left so I could attend the launch. It was a big challenge to reach there in time for the 740pm class.

Cali Singapore has been successfully carrying BB, BC and BP programs in its gym for the longest time. I'm surprised BJ wasn't launched much earlier. I think BA would be successful too. BS would be doomed to fail given the plethora of freestyle step classes they have.

I think the launch was very successful. They must have had at least 10 instructors doing the launch, with several more non-BJ instructors turning up to support. The crowd turned up in full force too. Toshie was standing right next to me!

Everything was nicely decorated with black and yellow balloons (BJ's official colour) and the instructors all decked out in official LM gear, with bright yellow accessories, caps, bandanas, etc.

The class was totally packed so it was a little difficult to really execute some of the dance moves. I could tell that many of the members were still not used to this new program but I'm sure they'll pick it up fast.

Other than the space constraint, I did feel that the mic was a little muffled and next time I must remind myself not to stand at the side. This is not BODYCOMBAT, I can't auto-pilot and I have to keep turning my head to look at the instructors at the center.

For the class, they launched the entire release of BJ46. I can't say that BJ46 is my favourite release, coming off 2 very good releases - BJ44 and BJ45. Music wise, I didn't really like the tracks that much as compared to the earlier 2 releases, and choreo block wise, I still think BJ45 blew me away.

BJ45 - Doing it at the Global Summit. Still remember doing it with 400-500 trainers. The contemporary rock blew me away, loved the diagonal arms, voodoo drop, butterfly jump combo. It was my second ever class and first one for at least 3-4 years?

BJ44 - After the filming, went to Gandalf's regular classes at LM gym and they were doing BJ44, so I really loved the hip-hop and house blocks.

Maybe I do like these 2 releases for its sentimental value, but the music and choreo blocks were much much better.

I really do like it that Cali has launched so that it gives me another option to attend BJ classes, but strangely I can't seem to find any BJ slot on the schedule. Perhaps they're slowly integrating it into the schedule?

Nevertheless, like what I always do, I always look forward to new releases, but for the next two I've done them already so I know what to expect.

BJ47 - in normal Auckland class. Choreo wise still ok. Not really a fan of Latin and all those salsa moves, so perhaps it's slightly discounted.

BJ48 is going to be AWESOME. Loved the blocks. Loved the aggression. Loved the filming. "There's a UFO!"

Go With The Flow

It feels extremely good to be on leave. Would have loved being in Bangkok, but I guess staying in Singapore not doing anything is rather enjoyable too.

When I go for holidays, I don't like to plan. I do not enjoy travelling with people who like to do meticulous planning such that every hour must be fully maximised by some activity. I feel extremely rushed. The reason why I have no qualms about travelling alone is because I have no itinerary most of the time.

If anyone has been following my Auckland trip diary, you'll probably know that I like to go with the flow. Wake up as and when I like, and then decide what to do.

My work is already hectic enough. The last thing I want to do on a holiday is to adhere to a schedule. I'll like to laze around in the pool, read a magazine, and when time comes, maybe go for a meal. Sightseeing has never interested me that much. I had friends asking, in that case why don't you just book a hotel room in Singapore? My answer is simple. The feeling is just different. I enjoy going overseas and plane travel is part of the experience. Which is why I'd rather not go on a trip if I have to take budget air. If I don't have money, then I'd not go. So am I being difficult here?

I work 12 hrs nearly every single day. Every minute is an adrenaline rush, watching the market indices move and hitting deals to generate revenue, as well as having to be careful with mistakes otherwise we have to bear the costs. Perhaps due to my work nature, time is money.

I remember when I first started working, one of my bosses had plenty of leave to clear, given his seniority, and work commitments, he hardly had any time to clear. I asked him why doesn't he cash them out since his pay must be quite high (and I'm not even talking about 10-20k a month, it's much higher), and he'll get quite a lot of money. He looked at me and laughed, "I'd rather take the leave."

Little did I know two and a half years down the road, I'll feel the same too. (Disclaimer - I don't earn that kind of money haha)

Some think that my direct SQ flight to Auckland is wasteful, but here's what I think. I'd rather spend a bit more on a direct flight than having to transit. I can save a few hundred, but I will need more leave. The same analogy applies to cab rides. I pay a bit more and get there faster. That's how I logic things out.

Over the weekend, I was at the Chevrolet roadshow at STC. I went to check out the prices and was seriously tempted to get one on the spot. Before I started working, I did tell myself that the moment I hit a certain income level, I want to get a car for myself. But yet, with the economy in recession, and my job so uncertain given my industry and employer, I'm afraid to commit. I've got some kind friends who say, just go with the flow, buy first, think about it later.

My current boss has been nudging me to buy a car for the longest time. He will always say in Mandarin, 小钱不出,大钱那里会进来, which means if you don't spend little money, the big money will not come in. Strangely enough, many of the high ranking people think the same too. If you don't spend money, you don't feel the pinch, you won't have the drive to go out and earn more. I have not really come to terms with that philosophy.

I've only got 2 indulgences in life. Food and travel. I like to eat at restaurants. I like travel and I usually spare no expense to give myself a good time. I hardly buy anything else. Shopping? Nah, not for me. I don't even buy Xmas presents! I'm a mean old scrooge here who doesn't celebrate Xmas.

Anyway, I don't really know what I'm writing here, or what objective I'm achieving, but because I'm on leave and just relaxing, I'm just writing my thoughts here. I really like to do things depending on my moods.

When I'm busy at work, I grumble, wishing that I was on leave so I can do this and that. Then when I'm on leave, I don't feel like doing anything! There's a lot of things for me to do actually... I can pack my stuff, everything's in a mess, I can watch some DVD movies, I can read the three books I just bought, I can go swim, I can go other instructor's classes... Bottomline, there's so many things to do, but I just don't feel like doing anything.

In the end this probably feels the best, because this is my idea of a holiday.

Man City

I just watched Man City lose to their better neighbours Man Utd 1-0.

Man City was recently bought over by Middle Easterns, received a hefty cash injection, and can be said to be one of the richest clubs now. With their riches, they signed one star player.

However, the club remains toothless, devoid of quality and vastly inferior to their more imperious neighbours.

With a better man at helm and positive directions, they may be able to fare better. But decisions aren't showing them to be heading towards the right direction.

Man City fans must be chronically frustrated seeing their team attempt to emulate their more illustrious neighbours but repeatedly fall short.

Only time will tell. Question is, can Man City fans live long enough to see the glory days?

Riches are temporary, but class is permanent. There are some things money can't buy.

Like It Or Not

On Sat, there were three different people talking about new releases.

First up was Chris, one of the members whom I bumped into the changing room. A brief exchange and update and I casually mentioned that I was supposed to be in BKK for the quarterly over the weekend. He probed further and I told him the workshop was for instructors to do the masterclass, collect the DVDs, catch up on some latest education, and of cos a legitimate excuse to get out of the country.

So he went along the line saying that new releases are not that fun. My reply was simple, "Just give it some time, and gradually the tracks will become fun. After all, the tracks that you liked were new releases once too!"

He gave me a smile, "but some tracks are more fun than the others."

Then during lunch, I had a conversation with YM, and I don't know the topic digressed to new releases. He proferred the same opinion and I gave him the same casual reply.

He remained indignant. "If I like the track, I will like it when I first do it, like Shooting Star."

Now, Shooting Star is one of my personal favourites, but if I had to do that same track a few hundred times, I'm sure I will hate it.

After my two classes on Saturday, I loitered around STC area before meeting up with some instructors for a Thai meal. I know it's damn corny (or so I thought), about 10 of us who were supposed to go for BKK quarterly and didn't manage to make it, gathered together to eat Thai food at Golden Mile. The meal was great even though it was a little spicy and I don't like spicy stuff.

Besides me, there was Joel (who organised), Max, Junwei, Edwin, Fernie, Joanna, Yinshi, Leonard, Xavier and Ms Lynn. Prior to the dinner, I had a forewarning that dinner may be a little quiet, but it was far from quiet.

I realised I digressed. As we adjourned to Liang Seah after dinner for desserts, Leonard mentioned he did BC38 and didn't like it. He thinks the music and moves are bad.

So that makes it three people in one day who said something about not liking new tracks. Coincidence or what?

As for me, I look forward to new releases, good or bad. I think new release challenges us, keeps us on our toes, and most importantly keeps things fresh. I'm sure if anyone plays the same few tracks all the time, they'll get bored of it. Which is why I never like to repeat the same tracks until a few weeks later.

There have been releases that have been pants for me (eg BC35) and I also didn't really enjoy BC33, but I just like the excitement of anticipating new music and seeing new moves. I was one of those who have been proven wrong by new releases, I hated a certain release once on first listen, and it ended up being one of my favourite releases.

Take the most recent release for example - BC37. Don't tell me there's no one who doesn't like 'Sea of Love'? Or the MT 'Let The Beat Control Your Body'.

Anyway BC38. I do like some of the tracks already. Music and choreography wise. I do think there'll be a couple which may not take off, but generally I prefer to do it a few times before I make a passing judgement.

And even if BC38 really sucks, there's always BC39 to look forward to! I for one am looking forward to that. Music wise, I think BC39 will be hot, but it will not be as challenging physically as BC38. And if I think Pink's So What is one of the weakest track in BC39, the release is going to smoke.

Looking forward to more new releases.

Of Cancellations and Christmas

I don't really know how I feel about the cancellation of my BKK trip. I could do with a break, but on the other hand I don't really need it so soon. I could do with a quarterly workshop, but on the other hand missing it isn't the end of the world.

Everything's official now. I've cancelled my hotel bookings, only a matter of time before I cancel the flights. Received notification on crediting workshop fees from Les Mills Asia Pacific. Shall wait till next year. KL doesn't interest me that much.

On the latter subject in the title, you would probably think I'm writing something exciting about Xmas and totally looking forward to it. You may be awfully wrong. If you're really pro-Xmas, I suggest you stop reading any further right now.

I've always regarded Xmas as just a normal day. It has never ever had any significance to me, perhaps I'm not a Christian, I don't understand it and thus I don't celebrate. To me, it's just a public holiday where I don't have to turn up for work.

I remember one year when I watched a Xmas eve concert, stayed over, went church on Xmas day, and then left for home feeling very empty and totally conflicted inside. I'm not a religious person and that was a personal concession which I doubt would be accorded in this lifetime ever again.

For the past 2 years, I've conducted classes on Xmas day and then went off straight after that. 2006 was STC and 2007 was 2hr at PPW. I remember because I record every single class I conduct. In fact, I can even tell you what tracks I played. It's because I record every single class I conduct. All 453 of them to date. Memories are most precious to the crabs so I've been dutifully jotting down every single detail without fail. Unfortunately, this year, I am not conducting class on Xmas.

I feel Xmas is over-commercialised. Why wait until a day in the year when you let someone know that they're in your thoughts? We can do that any day. I never liked receiving gifts because I hate owing favours to others and receiving gifts feels like that. I also don't like being expected to produce a gift just because it's Xmas. Not getting a present for someone doesn't mean they're less important or they're not regarded as friends. Everyone has a different yardstick and that's just mine.

As for helping the economy in recession, I believe I do more than my fair share. Just look at my spending. I've no qualms buying anyone a meal but I would seriously LOVE to avoid the shopping crowd. I hate scratching my head to think of something appropriate to buy for someone.

I'd rather remember dates with more relevance - for instance Jul 1 or Oct 28 or any other date that has meaning to me. Dates that carry memories.

Ironically, as I'm writing all these, I've just accepted a Xmas party invitation at a colleague's place. I accepted because I really like these colleagues of mine. Parties are fine once in a while but I do prefer the one to one personal touch. And sometimes I'm quite fearful of my own mood swings which can just change instantly, especially at parties where there's many people.

So there you have it, I don't know why I'm writing all these, but I guess I just want to tell a particular reader that I'm not compromising, not because I don't regard the person as insignificant, but doing that means it will be very contrived and it won't be the real ZJ. The real ZJ hates being diplomatic like the Libran.

Would you rather have a WYSIWYG ZJ? Or a ZJ who flatters to deceive?

Big Question Mark

As this round of quarterly workshops is the super workshop for LMAP, there are at least 50 of us (instructors and trained) going up to BKK this time round.

It would have been a great workshop, most of the who's who in the Singapore fitness industry for GX and LM at one location. As most of the instructors already know each other by name, if not personally, it would have been a perfect opportunity to share a common passion.

Unfortunately, a series of events has occurred, rendering the trip potentially dangerous. Flights have been cancelled, there are protests at the airport. It remains a big question mark whether we can still go.

The reality hasn't sunk in yet, and it is still uncertain. I would like to go for a holiday, but I can do without. This would be my 8th overseas trip this year. I know some of us have waited forever for this trip, and it would be a huge disappointment if they don't get to go.

So how now brown cow?

Never Rains But Pours

Here I am, hearing about doom and gloom in the financial markets at work. I thought I can get away from it all for a few days, enjoy a fantastic quarterly workshop, good food, good massage and maybe even buy some stuff on the cheap.

Then I read news saying that flights to BKK are cancelled. Whether I can go for quarterly remains a big question mark.

I want to go. I would like to have a mini break.

You Can't Please Everyone

It's 3am now and I'm still reading LM forums - both official and non-official.

While reading some tracks, it seems that several instructors have dismissed BC32's Power 3 - 'Welcome To The Black Parade' as absolute pants. And this track happens to be one of my favourites! I always get high doing it so it's quite bewildering to hear such comments.

Well, you can't please everyone. It's just like many people liking BC37's Combat 2 - 'We Will Survive' and I abhor that track.

Sometimes I also think track selection has got to do with personality and style. I try to integrate my personality and style into each track, but some tracks just don't work out well. Nothing unusual about that.

It's like I'll never ever see myself as a BODYJAM instructor. Regardless of what style cos I can't dance for nuts.

What Hurts The Most - BC38

It's been nearly two weeks since I wrote anything here. No, I haven't disappeared, it's just that I've been so busy at work, and I haven't had much to write anyway.

Since my return to work after a 2 week absence, I've been swamped. I've been going non-stop like a machine, looking forward to weekends (when I can finally rest and do my classes) and pay day (last week)!

The finance sector is kinda like the worst place to work in right now. Shattered confidence, retrenchments, pay reductions, cost-cutting exercises. I'll be lying if I said the mood at office wasn't affected. Everyone's scared and we should have every reason to be too.

Someone I had dinner with on Friday night commented that I'm generally quite serious and not so positive. I think I've probably reached a stage in life where I'm less excited easily. I'm more excited at the prospect of doing it rather than the process of doing it. (Eg. I'm more excited knowing that I'm going for filming rather than going for filming itself) Well, this person is still NOT going to get her Christmas present. A Christmas treat is fine, but I don't have a habit of getting Christmas presents. Sorry lah, I just don't celebrate Christmas.

Fortunately, I'm still very enthusiastic about BC and conducting classes. Maybe it's because I only conduct classes during weekends. I really do miss conducting classes on weekday nights, I still miss those days when I was conducting those evening classes at Chevron (Tue) and FES (Wed).

It's tough being a weekend warrior. One entire week without physical activity then I bust my ass over the weekend. Tiring but shiok.

What keeps my enthusiasm going is thankfully, new releases. The day I dread new releases and learning new music/moves/choreo, it's probably time to call it a day. One week from today, I'll be on board a plane and flying to Bangkok for the quarterly workshops.

KL, BKK, AKL - sometimes I just use quarterlies/filmings to give myself an excuse to get out of the country for my recharge. With the economy in recession and the uncertainty, perhaps it's time to cut down on those lavish spending. Luckily I still have enough Krisflyer miles for 2 more Auckland trips on Economy. Was even thinking of redeeming Biz class for the shiokness factor since my current job doesn't require me to travel. Shall be more prudent now and don't waste the mileage unnecessarily.

About BC38, I think most of us will like this release. It is also likely to be one of the most painful releases ever. Like I always say, it's kinda useless just watching the DVD and passing remarks on whether this track is 'can make it' or 'cannot make it'.

Music wise, I think we've got quite a good mix, there hasn't been any that has stood out as an instant favourite yet, but there's a few tracks I think I will like.

T1 - Good songs, esp the lower body warm up, keeps ringing in my head! Simple movements, simple strikes, no capoeira. Interesting reversal of upper warm up from R to L(a bit like BC15)
T2 - Jury's out on this one. Initially thought the song was duh, but the more I listen to it, it's really quite nice. Choreo wise, a little too simple and many many repetitions.
T3 - I like this track. One of those techno songs. Won't stand out as one of the best in the whole collection, there's been many better power 1 tracks, but I think still do-able.
T4 - Butt blaster. I like the surprise at the second half of this track.
T5 - Erm, my initial favourite. Avril Lavigne. I know her songs are a little bimbo sometimes, but I really like her tracks cos they're so catchy. And I think this will blast the shoulders... Oh those jabs.
T6 - If anyone thought the esquiva track in BC37 was tough, this is much much tougher. Test of balance. Legs WILL burn!
T7 - Ok, my initial thoughts on this track. Messy. Feels like a N&G track from pre BC20 days, just fitting random combos into the track. No integration, no combination. But who knows, the feeling may change after I do it.
T8 - What Hurts the Most. Shoulders and arms. When I was watching it, I was like... goodness me this is going to HURT big time!
T9 and T10 - no comments

I think I'll be back with more updates after BKK quarterly.

=(

Sometimes I just hate my own mood swings.

I'm feeling super depressed now because Sunday is coming to an end and all I can think about now is going back to work tomorrow morning. No more sleep-ins.

I know there will be at least a thousand emails to clear. There will be shit for me to pick up when I return. Stress will return once again. Long working hours. Non-stop talking.

Most importantly, no more 'me' time. I could have done with more of that.

Bodycombat at YJC

I wanted to update this blog cos I just had one of my most enjoyable classes ever. And it wasn't even at a gym. It was a corporate class at YJC as part of their sports CCA camp. Kids today are super lucky. There's so much more to experience. When I was in JC, I think BODYCOMBAT was just being created!

Because I was a JC boy once (and not too long ago haha), I knew how young adults think, so it wasn't too difficult for me to rack my brains to capture their attention.

May seem a surprise to some who are used to my 'serious' demeanour in my classes, but I was cracking jokes half the time and I'm glad the JC kids responded very well with their natural laughter, so I think I succeeded. (Sidenote: Anyway, I think I've lightened up a lot in my recent classes already...)

As I was alone, the best thing to capture their attention was to get them involved, and I called for people to sabotage their friends by calling out names to come up on stage to be my sparring partner, where I would demo the moves and combo before I start each track. I did that for each track, so a fair number of young adults came up!

The crowd was about 60-70 and it was from the sport CCA groups like floorball, bowling, sailing, soccer, basketball, etc. So each time someone came up, I would ask them for their names and CCA, and then disturb them a bit. It was all in the name of a good laugh.

The girls were terrified cos they kept thinking I'm going to punch and kick them each them I demoed the combo.

It was a very good experience cos these young people are natural athletes and they process physical instructions relatively well. A few who were not used to the program had co-ordination problems at the start, but I think by the 5th or 6th track, they were really getting the hang of it.

Before the class, I was told by Sebestian to just teach them about 5 tracks, but one of the PE teachers told me to 'give it to them' since they're all athletes haha. Together with all the showmanship, getting names and people to come up for me to demo the combos, we still managed to do 8 tracks. I was definitely very pleased.

And in today's class, I did So What by Pink from BC39. I have the song, I remember the choreo, but I did the pre-filming version, which has a simpler choreo. So these young kids actually had the privilege to do something which all the hardcore members have to wait 4-5 months to get a taste of. I guess I just couldn't resist. Something funny though, when I asked the class if they wanted to do push-ups, everyone kept silent.

After the class, I had a chat with some of the PE teachers. They loved BC very much and they all think it would be good if they have incorporate this into their PE classes or Sports Education Program. They noted that having music to exercise with engages the participants and keeps their concentration and focus. Energy levels are also higher. They mentioned they had some kickboxing and Muay Thai classes before but it was all done without music so it was kinda boring.

I'm sure Lynn will have something to say about this... I know Les Mills don't pay me to market their stuff, but I actually promoted BJ to them! Showed them a couple of BC and BJ videos I have in my ipod and got them all interested. I even wrote down for them what the programs were and how to get access to these program for their students. Seriously, LM should employ me to be their ambassador!

The teachers enquired how much I charge for each class if they wanted to have another session again. I almost wanted to say I don't mind doing it for free cos the satisfaction of seeing enthuasiastic young faces outweighs any monetary reward. But in the end I didn't say free of cos, because all the other instructors would hate me.

Finally, one of the teachers mentioned something which has always been my belief. She said it was nice to see the students working out and most importantly have fun and enjoying it. This has always been my philosophy - have fun while working out.

Catching Up With Friends

It's been 2 days since my last entry and already someone (an instructor) is asking me why my blog is not updated. To put it simply, there is nothing for me to update! But today, there's finally something for me to update, but I'll just post the missing gaps for the past couple of days first.

I'm still clearing my leave and will be back at work next Monday, so I took this opportunity to catch up with some of my friends and buddies. My work is taking up most of my time, I do end about 9plus every evening, and it has consumed much of my social life, and even my weekday gym classes have not been spared. Occasionally, I end early and attend one or two classes, but I'm finding it difficult to strike a momentum.

On Wed, I met up with Mr Scorpio to give him a birthday treat and pass him his birthday present. We had dinner at Kazu, a yakitori restaurant at Cuppage. I must say the food is awesome. I love the foie gras especially.

Thu, I met up with Ed to catch Quantum of Solace. Because we arranged at Vivo, I actually went to gym before the movie. Had an unpleasant incident, which I felt was very unprofessional, but I shall let it lapse and not harp on it.

After the movie, we went for dinner, and then I took the NEL with Ed to Sengkang where he lives before I take a bus home from there. I had plenty of time to spare considering I was still on leave, so I called up my buddy from my first job DY to meet.

I felt bad calling him near midnight and taking him away from his wife, but the bus stop was right under his block, so there was no reason not to catch up with him, right? We basically outlined some of the plans for the end of the year and for early next year.

Till now, I'm still very close with my buddies from my first job. I sort of regret leaving for a higher pay and more $, but where would it have taken me had I remained there? In contrast, my second job was something I hated, and I can consider myself leaving without any true friends.

Right now, I can say I've more or less settled into my new job, I like my colleagues and my boss, but the concern is on the economic climate. It's very uncertain now and everyone is scared for their jobs. We have started retrenching and so have our competitors. All the more I should be working hard and having fewer distractions to make sure I tide over this period first.

In the meantime, I shall focus on expense control, and maybe limit myself to indulgence just once a year. I still can't believe I went Auckland twice this year, not to mention the little trips along the way... Like I say to Jean, I think I'm addicted to travel.

Speaking about Jean, today was the day I caught up with some of the fellow instructors. I arranged to meet Jean and Wei Li for a buffet lunch. Prior to that, I paid a visit to the Chevron branch and was surprised to see some changes in the layout. I shall focus on the positive - the main studio has been enlarged! I think it looks great and can accomodate more people now. I still remember my Tue Chevron evening class - sometimes 50-60 pple squeezed in that old studio. How did we survive? It was fun while it lasted.

Met them for lunch to pass Jean her LM Clothing which I helped her buy, and also to catch up. I think we spent our entire lunch talking about gym stuff - filming, classes, etc.

After lunch, met up with another instructor Li Hua, also to pass her the LM clothing she wanted me to buy, and we had a chat about filming. Li Hua is definitely someone who can relate to what I've written in this blog because she has been there personally before. In BC35.

People who do not know Les Mills programs or share the same passion may never make a visit to Auckland, but it's the people who have been there who will know what this is all about.

As Lynn will always say, why are we crazy over something? Is this something real? The answer is out there. All we have to do is to make the trip to NZ and discover that there are many other international fanatics out there. We are not alone.

I shall be patiently waiting for BC39 to come out.

Auckland Day 8

Nothing much to say for this post, except that I'm physically back in Singapore.

I woke up at 9:30am Auckland time, so worried I was about oversleeping and missing my flight, I set my alarm 5 times, and I got the reception to give me a morning call. Compounding matters further was that the workout from Monday night (or was it my casino rollercoaster) gave me a high and I was still tossing around in bed at about 5am.

Had to check out by 10am so it was a mad rush. Decided to take a taxi to the airport, which set me back by NZ$60. I know it's a little extravagant considering I've already bought the return tix for the airport express, but I simply didn't feel like dragging my luggage 3 streets away to take the bus.

Decent flight, watched a few movies, only managed to catch about 30mins of sleep. Everything was smooth on the flight and the service was excellent.

My parents came to pick me up at the airport and we had dinner at the food court. I told them about my casino adventures, and now my dad is thinking of organising a trip to Genting next month.

Back at home, with a full luggage completely unpacked, I'm starting to feel really moody. I think it won't be long before I snap at someone or something. Is it the weather? Or is it the jet-lag? Is it because the adrenaline is all over and I'm back to face reality?

Three more days of leave before I return to work. I think I know why I haven't been so sociable for this trip. I have to talk so much at work that when I finally have a break, I just don't feel like talking to anyone. I'm the sort of person that needs a lot of 'me' time.

Next Monday onwards, the talking starts again.

Auckland Day 7 - Filming Day

It's past 3am in Auckland and I'm just back from the casino. Guess who I saw at the casino? Some Les Mills guy whom everyone is familiar with. Clue... Program Director of a popular program...

Anyway, the context of me saying that is I meant it as a coincidence, nothing negative about that because if it was, I'm the hardcore who visits the casino twice a day.

I should be sleeping, but I know some of you readers are waiting for snippets of the filming, so I thought I better write something.

First up today was Bodycombat filming! BC39 in the house! Now I have come to the conclusion that I like this release already. There is not a single track that I do not like for this release! I liked their outfit for this release, some 'CAGE' theme that they have. And the shorts they wore 'VENUM' looked awesome. Throughout this release, the focus is on combos, typically longer than usual (tests your memory!).

Spoiler alert - Pls skip the next para if you DO NOT want to know anything about BC39.

T1 - You get to sing "I am the one & only". Simple warmup but effective and good music too. I got a miscue (from not paying attention and being in auto-pilot mode haha) so I hope it's not too obvious in the DVD.
T2 - I love the combo. I don't know the song, but it sounds like a 'Group X' remix of a rock track.
T3 - Combo is great. Music is catchy too. And the guest presenter is fantastic! I loved her energy and form throughout the class. One of the best female presenters in a while.
T4 - A Scooter track. If anyone had caught my hint in an earlier post... This track will burn your legs.
T5 - A remix of a rock classic - Johnny Be Good. I love the CROSS part.
T6 - By now, the whole online LM community would have known that this track is Pink's So What. Simple track, but surprise, D&R modified the choreo. I love the new choreo. The old choreo was simple and actually it burnt the legs more, but somehow I enjoyed the new choreo. Always feel that T6 will be missing something without the back kick. (Initially no back kick)
T7 - This techno/rave sound ROCKS! And rocks big time too! Another long combo and the music is really superb and brings the energy up high! The song is so good because there are parts in the track which builds up the suspense. Watch out for the stinger...
T8 - Remix of September's Cry For You. This, or the MT (T7) could be my favourite track of the release. My shoulders were screaming in pain! "forever, and ever..."
T9 - Good workput for the core. A slight variation from the usual sit ups.
T10 - I really like this cool-down because I like the song. =)

There you have it, BC39 superb!

Now back to the other programs. Bodystep was next and I participated as well. This class killed my legs big time. I think I haven't done step in a very very long time and I also busted myself in BC, so I was really exhausted after this. Lisa was such an inspiration. Love her bubbly personality so much. And because I am not a BS regular, I can't comment much on the tracks.

BB was the last program for the night. The class was quite crowded, more so than the other releases I've seen on the DVD. It was really nice to finish the day with a nice soothing program.

T1 - Make A Wish. Inspired by a Tai-chi sword dance.
T2 - Desert Rose. A recycled track from BB24 with different choreo. I've taught this track a few times before and I love it, so I shan't be too harsh on my criticism of music being re-used. Man, I have double standards!
T3 - The Heart of the Matter. During rehearsals, I kinda disliked this song cos the workout was really burning my legs, and I was hoping for the song to end! I think this track is over 8 mins, because it's repeated (mostly) for the other side. But today, I finally appreciated the song for what it is. Can even sing along to it. "...forgiveness, forgiveness, even if, even if you don't love me anymore..." Googled the lyrics, really beautiful song.
T4 - Ok, I hate this song. Too much SEAL for my liking.
T5 - I don't know this song, but I find this song a little too short. I've always enjoyed the hip openers track because my hips are usually very tight from doing too much kicking in BC. Other than that, this track is effective and music is good.
T6 - Killer on the abs and core. Especially after the BC core track, my abs were burning afer the track.
T7 - An oldie, as Dr Dave mentioned that his dad used to play it all the time when he was a kid. Appreciated the workout, the music didn't do it for me.
T8 - Gavin Rossdale's Love Remains The Same. I like this track very much. Enjoy the song and the workout.
T9 - Kate Voegele's Lift Me Up. This has to be my favourite track for the entire release. I like it so much that I went up to Jackie Mills after the class and told her that I love this track and thanks for putting it in. She said yes, this track is really emotional. And btw, it's official that Jackie is not in BB44 as she's busy with her daughter's wedding. But she was present at the filming though.
T10 - Relaxation/Meditation. Did the new style which Dr Dave tried in the last rehearsal. Felt wonderful after that.

Yup, so that's BB for you. I can't say I like all tracks, but there were definitely a few which resonated strongly and I felt it very much.

Now to my casino adventures. Shall make it short and sweet this time. Bad session in the afternoon. Lost over $300 no thanks to a string of bad hands. Could have lost more if I haven't had to rush down to LM for filming.

The evening session was much much better. In fact, started out with losing hands too and down another $200 plus, but I found my lucky seat, and with a miraculous hand, I recouped everything for the entire day and even won some spare change. The moment I broke-even, I knew I had to call it a day.

Well worth the trips. There was some drama at my table though... There were some sharp exchange of words between some players. Sometimes gambling brings out the worst in people.

I won, I'm happy, I'm contented.

More when I return to Singapore, hopefully with some pics.

Auckland Day 6

I think by now everyone who reads this blog will know my daily schedule in Auckland, so I will just write about the gym stuff first.

I have officially given up hope of attending a BP class in Auckland because I woke up at 1pm today and I didn't manage to go for Hernan's BP class at 11am. I have no idea what happened to my alarm. It is alarming me that I am not waking up to it. Haiz.

Anyway today I went for 4:30pm by Chris Richardson. This man sure can dance. I must say I enjoyed his class very much. He may be a white guy but he sure can carry off the hip-hop and gangster style very well. He did 2 huge blocks today - both house.

The first was from BJ44 and the second was from BJ45. I really loved these 2 releases as it was the time when I started BJ. I did BJ45 at the Global Summit, and also did BJ44 with Gandalf for my first BJ class. Then when I returned back to Singapore, we just launched BJ44, so I had many memories for that.

After BJ, I stayed for BB44 rehearsal for the last time. Filming is tomorrow! How exciting. BB is a program where you need to feel the music. I know the classic argument by the yoga purists about how this program sucks, but to each his own.

I remembered a conversation with Dr Venky a couple of years back when he just came over. He said that Singaporeans are obsessed with achieving 'so and so' poses in yoga when the true essence is about the mind. But Dr Venky is a smart guy. He told me he will cater his class to his target market. If poses are what they want, he will give it to them.

I'll tell you what BB works for me. It's not really the stretches, or the poses or the workout, but the emotional feel of the music when doing the exercises. Which is why I need a few classes of the same BB release to really get into the songs. And the more I do this release, the more I love T8 and T9. It really makes me look forward to the end of the class just so I can hear these 2 songs. Weird isn't it. But it's just the way it is.

During relaxation/meditation, Dr Dave tried something new, and it felt really good. I do not know if he will do it for the actual filming. I noticed for today's session, he actually had a piece of paper with him.

Now to my casino stuff. I'm pleased to say that I've finally recouped all my losses and I'm standing on a grand profit of NZ$22. Hahaha. If anyone is wondering why that figure is so odd, it's because of that dreadful $1 commission wager we pay for Carribean Stud, which I gave up after my cards just wasn't right. I'm beginning to think... what if I hadn't had that horror showing on my first three days, in particular the second day... Regardless, I'm just happy to have won three days in a row.

I'm grateful for my luck. In fact, I even broke my own golden rule today. One of my 'self-imposed' rules is that once I lose everything I bring, I stop. But in the afternoon session, I changed $200 of chips, and that was gone in less than 20mins, no thanks to a series of shocking outcomes which nobody could have saw coming.

Down and out of luck, I had a whole 1.5 hrs to spare before hitting the gym (Yes, today I even packed my gym stuff so that I can save time going back to my apt as its not along the way), so I used my reserve money first. Hahaha... So much for my rules right.

Anyway, must say thanks to Li Hua and Jean. Thanks to them wanting me to help them buy some LM clothing, I actually reserved the cash in my bag (and not in my wallet for obvious reasons) and today I had my bag with me! I took out $100 to play and managed to recoup everything. Then with half an hour to go, I told myself enough was enough, and I walked away and headed for the gym. Breakeven.

The evening session was a strange affair. I started out in a similar fashion, I was down almost everything within half an hour, and with that few chips I had in my hand, I got my lucky break. The pairs started coming in. I even had quite a few perfect pairs. The moment I broke even, I walked away and changed back my chips. In the end I managed to recoup all my losses for the first 3 days.

For this trip, most of the conversations I made were at the casino. Fellow gamblers who I see almost everyday. Some on vacation, some locals who are clearly addicted, some who came here just on a gambling trip. There was the usual acknowledgement when we see familiar faces, people who've shared the ups and downs in this short period of time.

Tomorrow I will not spend too much time at the casino, as it is filming day. I also need to pack my stuff for the return trip back. My trip is going to come to an end soon, but I have enjoyed every moment of it so far - be it gym or casino. It just feels great to get out of home once in a while.

Auckland Day 5

I must start to remind myself that I only have 2 days left before I return back to Singapore! Time is just passing too fast. And once I'm back, a couple of days of break before I return to work, and have to wait another dreaded year before I get another 2 weeks of compliance leave.

Well, for all you BC fanatics hoping for another update on BC39 and D&R's class, I'm sorry to disappoint because this Singapore boy is still living in Singapore time! Meaning that I'm waking up at about 8am (NZ 1pm) and sleeping at 10-11pm (3-4am). Needless to say, I couldn't wake up for D&R's class this morning at 8:30am. What a letdown I know. I set the alarm but I don't know what happened!

So I woke up, checked the gym schedule, went for my usual early afternoon casino session before heading to the gym for 3 classes!

First up, BB44 rehearsal. Mixed feelings about this one. There's a couple of recycled tracks, not from other programs, but from previous BB releases. Are they really having so much difficulty finding music for BB? And I'm really hoping there won't be any more Seal songs in BB because frankly I really don't like his music and too much of it is annoying.

On a positive note, I do like T8 and T9 very much! Gavin Rossdale's Love Remains The Same and Kate Voegele's Lift Me Up. What a way to bring the class to a close.

After the class was BC by Joe Houpapa. He's the guy who appeared in BC25 DVD. I had a little trouble perking myself up for the class especially after the relaxation in BB, and I was still feeling a little dazed.

After BC, I went down to Studio Two for BJ by Carla! She did some 'new but not the new new' stuff as I quote her. Which means BJ47! I know it's unfair to make comparisons but I think I prefer BJ48 already haha - "There's a UFO!"

Today was Saturday, so the gym wasn't as crowded as usual, but there were many people attending the classes as usual. It's so much easier for an instructor to bring up the energy levels when there are many people.

Anyway, tomorrow I'll try to wake up earlier and I die die must do a BP before I leave. How can I come all the way here and not do a BP?

I left the gym and headed to the other direction towards New World supermarket. Their Quiche Lorraines are simply delicious, and I've already had three so far this trip and I've got another two in the fridge for night snack.

Dinner and after that the usual - casino!

Today was yet another lucky day for me. I won both my afternoon and evening sessions and on both occasions had the discipline to walk away unscathed. I could do a long list about whatever strategies and superstitions, but I still seriously believe gambling is about luck (and discipline to walk away when winning).

Now for the readers who may seem alarmed at my sudden penchant for gambling. Let me assure you this is not new. I have been a gambler since young. My favourite past-time was betting on football matches. I believe that proper analysis and understanding of teams' strength can increase chances of winning. Casino is a different thing - luck. I just like the kick. I like numbers, I like calculations and I like thinking probabilities.

The other thing is that the gambling genes run in my family. My parents are gamblers. My grandparents are gamblers. My relatives are gamblers. And also I think it runs in the Chinese blood. I am quite sure over 70% of the gamblers at the casino are of Chinese descent - China, HK, Taiwan, Malaysia, Singapore (some ugly gamblers I've met), Korea, Japan...

Carribean Stud - I've totally given up hope on that, not a single winning hand. Today, I was quite down on Blackjack but somehow managed to string a few perfect pairs (this is what I call sheer luck). But the ultimate for me today is BACCARAT! I even managed to get a perfect pair in Baccarat. At odds of 25-1.

I love BACCARAT. It just amuses me to see people writing on the cards because I think everything is to chance, and there's no way of knowing which card will come out next. Blackjack at least requires some skill. I don't play JACKPOT though. It's the same reason as why I don't like buying 4D and TOTO. It's a long shot.

As they say... "Whatever you want, whatever you like, whatever you say, you pay your money, you take your choice. Whatever you need, whatever you use, whatever you win, whatever you lose..." Get the hint people?

Anyway, I'm happy I won today, but I think I'm more proud of myself having the discipline to walk away.

Auckland Day 4

The highlight for me for Day 4 is that I finally had some good luck at the casino. I managed to win in both my afternoon and evening sessions.

This was also due to the fact that I had an incredible string of luck in the perfect pairs at the Blackjack table. Not only did I hit pairs several times, I managed to get 8 perfect pairs in the two sessions today. Unbelievable. The unfortunate thing was I only participated in 3 out of these 8 occasions. At odds of 25-1, a $5 bet would yield $125. A fellow gambler spotted my luck today in pairs and proceeded to follow my bets and he made even more money from pairs than I did.

Lynn has been nudging me to go out and participate in some outdoor activity, but I am enjoying myself at the casino. Two rules I abide by - I don't play on credit, and I limit myself to a certain amount of cash I bring out, so that if I lose everything for that day, that's it. I consider it 'entertainment fee'.

Now, sandwiched between my 2 lucky casino sessions was a visit to the LM gym for class. I had wanted to attend BC by Dan & Rach (as printed on the schedule) but I was slightly disappointed that it wasn't them and it wasn't the BC39 rehearsal. It was Nathan, but I had fun too in a different way.

Nathan was joined by Angie, another instructor on the stage, so after doing 6 tracks, he made a call to all the international instructors to join them on the stage for 2 tracks. I hesitated at first, then in the end I went up. Who knows if I'm ever going to have a chance to go up the stage at Auckland Studio 1 ever again?

I think there were about 10 of us on stage, and there was more than enough space, so you can imagine how big the stage is. And because of the massive size of the studio, I couldn't even see the faces at the back clearly. We did BC3707 - Let The Beat Control Your Body (one of my favourites) and BC2308 - Retro Rush. Nathan made a mistake in Retro Rush and he punished himself with some pushups. It was hilarious.
Being on the stage was really hot (pun intended). I had fun and enjoyed it.

So after BC, I popped down to Studio 2 where they were doing the BB44 rehearsal (I didn't know!) and they were more than halfway done. So I joined for the last 3 tracks. I must say the hamstring track (T9) is just so beautiful... Lift Me Up by Kate Voegele.

After BB, there was a BJ session and they did a warm up which I hadn't seen before. Could it be the warm up from BJ47? I also saw Nathan join in.

Oh and to sidetrack a bit... for yesterday's BJ48 filming... guess who was doing JAM... DAN! Yes, Dan the Man from BC. What I really liked about the LM culture is that the instructors support each other for filmings and classes.

And the reason why I couldn't stay for BJ was because I arranged to have dinner with PJ! Yes, finally had the chance to catch up with him after so long. The first time was when he did my class at the old PF Far East Square Wed 7:30pm, and the second time was during Global Summit when I came down to Auckland earlier this year.

After dinner and a very nice chat, I headed back to the casino again! I think what made the difference today was I had some discipline. When you gamble, there is bound to be periods when you are lucky and periods when you are down. The trick for me was the moment I won some $, I stashed the chips away in my pocket. Capital preservation first, winnings bonus.

The night was not without a scare too. I changed my usual $150 and it was wiped out within 3 rounds of Carribean Stud. Unbelievable luck from the dealer. When I had pairs for the first 2 rounds, the dealer had a larger pair. When I had a King Pair for my 3rd round, the dealer had THREE OF A KIND! I was there no less than 10 mins.

Left with $100, I decided to abandon the game and pursue Blackjack. That was when my incredible run of perfect pairs helped me so much that I not only recouped, I made too.

Discipline. Discipline. I must remind myself...

And I wanted to add one thing, was playing blackjack halfway when I heard some wild shrieks. Some lucky woman struck jackpot. $85,000! So lucky!

Now to bed early for 8:30am BC tmr. Hope I can wake up.

Auckland Day 3 - Filming Day

I'm tired. So damn tired from today's filming classes. And I didn't even do all! But first, a message to the one who's leaving me comments from NZ, pls say hi to me if you know who I am.

Ok, so today was the filming for 4 programs - BV, BP, BA and BJ.

I gave the first one a miss cos in all honesty, I seriously don't appreciate BV, maybe it's catered to a different audience. I'm not slamming the program, I'm just saying it's not for me.

Anyway because of that I missed BP as well. It was a miscalculation on my part. Between each filming there are 20mins before the next program, and as soon as BV ended, people would have snapped up all the step boards, bars and weights. Let's just say that I reached before filming started but there wasn't any equipment or space left.

Not really a problem for me because I just watched from the back and it was pretty enjoyable too! There were a couple of re-takes here and there. Glen said something wrong, and Matt another presenter put on uneven weights for the bar and went ahead before realising. But they made a joke out of it and everything is in good fun.

Anyway, I must say that BP69 music is superb. I'm not sure if it was the fantastic sound system for Studio 1, or it was just the track selection, I found myself liking most of the tracks. I particularly liked T4 ("building castles"), T5 (a track formerly used in BC34), T6 (a track concurrently used in BC39 by a female artiste) and my favourite was T8 (used in BA64 - not sure if it's the same version).

All you BP instructors, pls listen carefully for the shoutout to 'Singapore' by Susan when watching the DVD.

BA next, and I really found myself looking forward to this. Not sure if it was because I missed the BP, but I really wanted some action.

Intensity wise, I'm not sure BA64 is the most intense, or maybe it was because the space constraint limited the range of the movements, or it was because I had slept 12 hrs for 2 consecutive days and was feeling really recharged haha. But it was fun. Spirits was high and energy levels were also high. My favourite was the running track - the same track for BP69 track 8. It was just pure fun and enjoyment.

BJ last! Disclaimer - potential spoilers here so Lynn may wish to skip the remaining of this entry and pretend that you didn't read this. But before I proceed, let me say that I took a pic of your G-GOD and with him too! Hahaha!

BJ48 - I rate this as one of the best BJs ever. Could be one of my favourite releases. Love the combos for all the blocks, not exactly easy and not too difficult. Watch out for words and phrases like 'UFO' and 'Where's your head at?'

For a 1 hr program, we spent more than 2hrs dancing and do many re-takes! The reason being (clarified with Gandalf after the class) was that there would now be 2 versions of the same choreo block, one with a higher complexity to cater to those advanced. So meaning to say, after we finished one block, we did the same block again with slightly modified moves. And not only that, there were a couple of technical errors and miscues and performance enhancement retakes.

But seriously, nobody minded or gave a damn. Everyone was just so happy to do the block over again! Yes, even me and I was super tired. This BJ release is going to be HAWT! If it isn't then I will give up Bodyjam totally!

After the class, I hunted Gandalf for a pic to fulfill my promise to Lynn and also a quick chat about the program. Then I met Rach and it became a BC discussion. A bit wrong I know, but I couldn't help myself.

I told Rach - if you guys come to Singapore, pls visit the gyms. You'll be amazed how popular the program is!

Alright enough for now, no pictures as usual - no time to upload them. So long... another update soon!

Auckland Day 2

Before I start this entry, I must say that this time round, I will be posting less pics than my first trip if any. Reason being I don't have much time to upload the pics, and also this time round as it's not the Global Summit, there aren't so many international people around taking pics and it isn't too conducive to take pics during classes and all that.

And another thing - an observation from yesterday's classes. Yes, presenters make mistakes too. They're human after all. There were a few during the rehearsals and I reckon everything will be cleaned up on actual filming day.

My day started at 2pm. Yes, that's how early I woke up. I was clearly very jet-lagged so I slept nearly 12hrs. Missed my 1:10pm BB class, but it's not the end of the world.

Went for a late lunch, and headed to the casino again. This time I didn't win or lose a single cent. I changed another NZ$150, went up to NZ$400, but I cashed out my capital and proceeded to lose the balance haha.

Went to gym for 5:10pm BC. It was D&R again. This time I had my second taste of BC39 and I must say that I quite liked it. My comments on this release - I think they're going back to basics, choosing good music and simple chorey. Yes the choreo is a little too simple I feel, but workout wise I definitely felt it, jet-lag or not.

T4 is going to be a fav. At least mine. Another Scooter track.
T7 I think this MT is really good. I like the combo
T8 the combo on the same arm... that one hurts.

These are the early favourites.

BJ was next and I was disappointed that there was no rehearsal but at the same time I was really pleased that it was Gandalf and Rach! Yes, Rach stayed back and somehow mananged to change her outfit behind the stage.

They did a mixture of the old tracks and I really loved the hip-hop combo from BJ44. The 'tick tock arms' combo. The class was hot!

After the class, I was deciding whether to stay for BB or BP but I ended up doing neither cos I was so hungry. Anyway the thing about Auckland studio 1 is that the entrance is a staircase, so people usually come in and sit by the side while they watch the class finish. As soon as the cooldown is done, the people come storming in with their BP equipment, so it's kinda difficult to find a space. I've got to resolve this issue during filming day, otherwise I won't get a bar to use!

I had a nice panini at the cafe. Haven't had time to browse through the LM store yet. I think the less I browse, the better it is as I won't be tempted to buy anything. It's freaking expensive.

After the class, walked to the Supermarket and I bumped into PJ there! What a coincidence having seen him in the gym earlier already. Bought some food back. and here I am updating my blog.

Shall call it a day for now because I still have to go to the casino! Bye!

Auckland Day 1

Yo everyone, I'm in Auckland finally and updating right from where the action is. It's my second day here, and I've finally found some time to update this blog so that some of you can follow my adventures here.

I took the 9pm SQ285 flight on Monday and reached Auckland 10hrs later, that was about 12noon local time here. The flight was good, I was spoilt for choice from the movie selection. I watched 3 - Harry Potter, Gattaca and Hairspray hahaha. There were at least 5 or 6 more that I wanted to catch but I just simply didn't have the time. So in the end, I think I only slept like a couple of hours.

The flight was on the new B777-300ER so it was comfortable and there was quite a lot of space. It was a near full flight, but I was just so lucky that the seat beside me was empty. My only complaint is that they didn't change the food menu so I remembered eating exactly the same stuff as my last flight to Auckland.

Reached Auckland and boarded the Airport Express to city. Bought the return trip for NZ$22. I asked around and found out that the taxi ride from the city to the airport is only NZ$35. If I had known this earlier, I would have taken a cab with my luggage. Not worth saving that $ for all that hassle since I take cab to work everyday and it costs more than NZ$35. I may stinge on some things... but definitely not cabs!

I chose to stay at Oaks (Hobson St) this time round to give myself another option. Pros and cons, and till now I haven't decided which location is better. I stayed at Latitude 37 the last time round. Latitude is quiter and more exclusive. Oaks is not so exclusive, some homeless people around loitering and asking for money, even though Oaks is right beside a police station. On the flip side, Oaks is nearer to the casino and has air-conditioning and internet access available for an exhorbitant fee, which is why I can update this in the comfort of my room.

The first thing I did was to catch some sleep and then head to the gym for BC at 5:10pm. I had a pleasant surprise when I got there. It was Dan & Rach and they were using this timeslot to rehearse for their BC39 filming. How fortunate that my very first class should be a sneak preview of the release before the actual filming.

There were 2 international presenters, a male instructor from Brazil and a female instructor from Portugal. Shall keep their identity secret for now, not sure if I'm allowed to post any 'SPOILERS' from the new release.

The feeling from my first taste of BC39 was that it was very raw. And because I didn't know any of the tracks, I had to pay extra attention so I ended up working up harder as compared to being in an 'auto-pilot' mode where I know instinctively what the next move would be.

After BC39, it was BP69 rehearsal. This time there was Glen and 4 other instructors. I didn't finish the class cos I was just too tired from my jetlag. It was my first BP experience in LM Auckland gym and the bars are freaking heavy. It's not the usual hollow weight bars we use in Singapore. The class was crazy-packed. I think BP is still the most popular prog in LM NZ.

But I stayed on. For BB coming right after. And I had another pleasant surprise. BB44 rehearsal! This time there were 5 instructors and surprise, no Jackie Mills! Apparently, she has something on this quarter so she's not in it. I couldn't really remember what happened in BB, except that the sun salutations is a recycled track with different chorey. I was so tired that I nearly fell asleep in relaxation/meditation.

Now when I was doing the relaxation, I kept hearing sounds from Studio 2. I know that there was a Bodyjam class down there but the screams and shouts coming from that studio were just unbelievable...

So after BB, I packed my stuff and went down. They were doing BJ48 rehearsal! Man, I missed it. Watched them do it but I didn't join in. Didn't have any strength left, and also the BB sort of left me in a very zen mood. Wasn't about to break that up by dancing!

I showered, left the gym and had a quick dinner. On the way back, I walked past the casino and I decided to go try my luck. I was seriously very tired but somehow I just walked in and the next thing I knew, I was sitting at the tables.

I changed NZ$150 of chips and played. There was a time when I was holding just over NZ$500 of chips. I should have stopped and cashed in, but no, I just continuing playing and I ended the night without any chips. Hahaha... now I know why they say gambling is addictive. Must learn to stop. Those who win keeps on going cos they think they can win more and those who lose wants to recoup their losses...

At the end of the day, my mantra is... play within my means!

Coincidence

Just watched The Amazing Race and this episode, they ran the entire leg in Auckland!

What a coincidence. I've a good mind to visit some of the places featured in TAR!

Time Flies

It's incredible how time flies. One week from now at this time, I'll be on board SQ285 heading to Auckland for my second pilgrimage. It just feels like it was yesterday that I booked the tix! Now it's so close and screaming at me!

http://zhengjie-auckland.blogspot.com/2008/08/auckland-redux.html

Lots of things to be cleared. I haven't started packing yet, haven't checked the address of my accomodation, haven't even started clearing my work before I embark on my little adventure.

I worked till about 10pm today, just clearing as much work as possible. I don't want lingering issues, and I hate leaving shit for my colleagues.

This time round, what do I want to achieve from the trip? I don't really know, I guess most importantly, I do need a break from work and the financial markets to recharge myself, secondly, I want to participate in the filmings, and I guess I can perhaps spend some time exploring Auckland if time permits. I'll have plenty of time but maybe I'll spend it at the casino to try my luck.

Filming wise, I guess I won't be having too high expectations this time round just in case I get disappointed. I know February was a one-off affair where everything was in conjunction with the Global Summit, and doing the filming masterclasses with hundreds of trainers is just awesome. I expect it to be a smaller affair this time round.

As usual I'll try to take lotsa pics though I must admit uploading them (and the vids especially) is a chore. In fact, I'll be back the following Tue, and have Wed to Fri to sort things out before I return to work.

So anyone wants to buy LM clothing from the clothing store? Instructors, pls SMS me your orders!

Today's classes

Coming off BC37, today I started mixing for my Sat classes and I certainly had a lot of fun doing it. When I was a participant doing BC, one of the things which I looked forward most to a class was the anticipation of which track the instructor would play.

I like doing new releases but not for too long as it get boring. And sometimes I also don't like instructors who play the tracks from the entire release as I like being kept in suspense. But then again, sometimes I'm guilty myself of playing the entire release - BC25/BC28/BC30/BC34.

For the morning STC class, I decided to go retro! I chose tracks from N&G days, and it felt really good. I enjoyed doing them very much as it's been so long since I did those tracks. Some of the members clearly enjoyed doing the old tracks, it was easy and there were lotsa opportunities to shout along. I was talking to Wei Li, who also attended the class, she quite liked the old songs too. Scooter and all those europop haha.

For the afternoon PP class, I decided to choose the crowd favourites from the 20s releases. Not N&G but D&R's tracks. Particularly enjoyed doing If I Were You and The 6th Gate. Maybe my fitness levels has dropped ever since I became a weekend warrior, but I barely made through 'The 6th Gate' in my usual swashbuckling style. This MT is freaking siong.

So we had a few mins to spare and I walked to my ipod and just mumbled over the mic, "we have time for one more, shall we do something from the new release?"

That was when I heard a murmur in the crowd "Sea of Love". It was so rare to hear that from anyone, especially the PP crowd. Of course I duly obliged. Sea of Love is definitely going to be a perennial favourite. I can almost guarantee that.

BC37 review

Been planning to write this for the longest time but I've been bogged down by work. Anyway, talking about BC37, I guess it is one of my favourite releases ever, so many tracks that I like, could be my second or third favourite after my current favourite - BC34!

Have to do my usual disclaimer in case I'm taken out of context again - the below review is my own personal thoughts and feelings about the tracks.

T1 Warm up - Summer of 69/I Never Liked You
I think this is an average warm-up. Nothing too spectacular in terms of music and choreo. Started out not liking these 2 songs very much, but after listening and doing so many times, it's still manageable. Pales in comparison to BC36's Walking in Memphis/James Bond Theme. 6.5/10

T2 Combat 1 - Beat It
I love this song. Musically, I think it's great. Choreo wise, a little simple, but I think within the context of this song, I doubt anyone else could have come up with better choreo. Definitely one of my future recycled tracks. 8/10

T3 Power 1 - Baby I'll Love You More
Started out not really liking this song, but this song just grows on me. The more I play this song, the more I like it. My only grumble is that the choreo is a little too simple for a power 1 track. Other than that, no complaints! 8.5/10

T4 Combat 2 - We Will Survive/The Great Bouzouki
I guess the jury is divided on this one. While reading forums and hearing comments from members, many like this track. But for myself, I just can't seem to appreciate it. One of the two tracks I didn't like when I first got my music/DVD, and even after teaching it quite a few times, didn't really quite get into the zone.

This track burns the legs, but I'm sure any ESK track would have matched that. Bring back the ESK for T4! This one didn't work for me. 6/10

T5 Power 2 - How Far We've Come
One of my favourite T5 ever. I've always liked Matchbox Twenty's songs, and it was damn cool to have this track in BC. I like singing along to 'Let's see how far we've come'. Choreo simple enough. 10/10

T6 Combat 2 - Stamp
This track is an enigma for me. On certain days I like the track, on certain days I don't. I haven't come to the conclusion whether I like the esquiva or not. I certainly like the capoeira movements in BC, but I will leave this open as to how the esquiva can be used in combos like the ESK, but given the creativity of D&R, I'm not ruling anything out.

Music wise, sometimes I like the song, sometimes I don't! Choreo wise, sometimes I think it's great, sometimes I think it's messy. Rarely have I had such conflicting thoughts on a single track. Maybe I will like this song after seeing how esquiva works in BC38... maybe... 6/10

T7 Muay Thai - Let The Beat Control Your Body
Full marks! Haha, even before I start, let it be known that i LOVE this track to bits. Pace, power and precision. I love the exhilaration I feel in this track. I think the last MT I really really liked was BC32's Check Your Head. Gosh that was so long ago. I always get into my 'attitude' mood when playing this track and I love the downward punches that keep me breathless everytime. 10/10!

T8 Combat 3 - Sea Of Love
This track is a universal favourite. When I first got wind of this track being in BC37, I've already loved it. When I got the DVD, I loved it even more. When I taught the track, I loved every moment of it, especially the first time I taught it during launch. The explosiveness of the track and the catchy lyrics. Can I give 10.5 upon 10? Haha. 10/10!

T9 Conditioning - Church
The pushups are a killer! I must say that I don't really like this song, don't know why, and I don't even like it in BJ. Of course they can't please everyone with their track selection, but I'll take a rock song over R&B/hip hop for a conditioning track any day. 5/10

T10 Cool Down - Our Solemn Hour
This cooldown is brilliant. Love the kata and the choreo is a bit drama at times, but the song just fits perfectly. The only thing I don't like about the choreo is the kneeling at the end of the track. It kills our knees! 8.5/10

There you have it. BC37 - awesome release!
